McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was signed by President George Bush on January 8, 2002 after it was reauthorized on December 10, 2015 as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015. This federal law focuses on the education of homeless children and youth and was in effect on October 1, 2016.

If a child or youth due to a loss of housing or economic hardship, must live in a shelter, hotel or motel, vehicle, campground, on the street, in abandoned buildings, in substandard housing  or share the housing of others,  and who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence may be considered homeless. If this is so, then the child or youth is eligible to receive services provided under the McKinney-Vento Act.

If you believe this applies to your child, please contact Wyoming Indian School District McKinney-Vento Liaison Pamela Gambler to determine eligibility. She can be reached at 307-332-9765
