Learning Arapaho

This section offers materials to help you learn the Arapaho language. If it is your first time learning this language, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the writing system and the reading rules found in the section Arapaho Sounds. After that it will be easier for you to begin the Lessons.

Arapaho Sounds

Unlike the English alphabet, the writing system for Arapaho is very straightforward. It is what linguists refer to as a "phonetic alphabet," meaning that each letter in the writing system basically corresponds to a single sound. Note that Arapaho has a pitch accent system (similar to the stress system in English, except the pitch of the vowel is raised, rather than pronouncing the vowel with greater volume or intensity).
